Dear Jack: You Bought a Poop Emoji Hat… and You’re Very Proud of It!

Dear Jack: You Bought a Poop Emoji Hat… and You’re Very Proud of It!

Dear Jack,

For your birthday, you had been planning to spend some of your $100 shopping spree money at Opry Mills Mall on a poop emoji stuffed animal you saw at a candy store; of all places. But once we arrived, the poop emoji doll was gone. You ended up buying a holiday-themed big-eyed animal instead.

But I figured it was just a matter of time before you would find a poop emoji to purchase…

This past weekend as we were waiting at the crosswalk to reach the Bridgestone Arena where the circus was taking place, a street vendor selling “the same stuff as inside” happened to also randomly have a poop emoji hat, in the likeness of a stuffed animal.

Mommy suggested you wait until after the circus was over before you decided how to spend your remaining $11 from your birthday money; to make sure there wasn’t anything you’d want more once you got inside to the circus.

Dear Jack: You Bought a Poop Emoji Hat… and You’re Very Proud of It!

I could tell for the last 20 minutes of the circus that you were distracted: You just wanted to get back to the street vendor to buy that poop emoji hat; assuming there was still one left.

The nice vendor man smiled and said, “That’ll be $15.”

We thought it was only $10 because earlier we had heard him name the prices of the light-up toys.

He saw that you had 11 one-dollar bills as you looked down into you vinyl skateboard-themed wallet.

“Oh, you’re using your own money? I’ll give it to you for $11 then.”

Needless to say, Poopy (as you’ve named it) has been a main character in your world since last Saturday. Poopy goes with you everywhere in the car and sleeps with you in the bed each night.

Dear Jack: You Bought a Poop Emoji Hat… and You’re Very Proud of It!

Not to mention, Poopy has made an appearance in your artwork at school. Not only did you do a profile picture of Poopy, but you also drew one of your classmates- with Poopy instead of the girl’s actual head.

Dear Jack: You Bought a Poop Emoji Hat… and You’re Very Proud of It!

She apparently liked your work. I’m almost surprised you didn’t tell me that other friends at school requested you to draw them with Poopy heads as well!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: I’m Currently Obsessed with This Picture of You at the Circus

Dear Holly: I’m Currently Obsessed with This Picture of You at the Circus

Dear Holly,

I am constantly taking pictures of you; wherever we are. But in particular, out of the hundreds I took during our family’s visit to the circus this past Saturday, there is one that I just can’t get over…

It’s the picture I captioned on Facebook with, “Fascinated by it all.”

While your brother definitely enjoyed the circus, I’m convinced that you were even more intrigued than he was. The way your big blue eyes were wide open, as well as your mouth, as you appeared to be mesmerized by what you are seeing.

From the lights, to the music, to the acrobats… you were truly fascinated by it all.

The world is still very new to you. I see it every day with you; that you are full of wonder and awe of everything that is presented to you.

But I also love how simply adorable you are in the picture. Your cuteness is very evident to me. The lights hit your skin in a way that really brings out the pink in your tone, which happens to match your cute little hoodie.

I’ve saved this picture on my phone as the wallpaper. I love to see it throughout the day- and I really enjoy showing off your picture to people. For those who haven’t seen a picture of you recently, this one is an exceptional photo to show them.

Seriously, you are such an adorable little baby girl.

You do this thing where if you are laying down and you see me walking towards you from across the other side of the room, you smile so big and so proud as if to say, “Daddy, aren’t I pretty?”

My answer will be the same every time: Of course you are… and don’t forget precious too!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your 1st Time at the Circus (Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Xtreme)

Dear Holly,

One of the many things I love about you is how sincerely excited and open-minded to whatever new thing Mommy and I place in front of you. It was obvious you could sense the excitement as we packed you up for the hour-long drive from Spring Hill to Nashville, to see Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Xtreme.

Dear Holly: Your 1st Time to the Circus (Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Xtreme)

I was always fascinated by the idea of a person being shot out of a canon at a circus. As of today, I finally got to see it happen myself. Leading up the circus this week, your brother Jack was so excited about the canon that he drew a picture at school to celebrate.

Dear Holly: Your 1st Time to the Circus (Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Xtreme)

Yes- we really got to see a person shot out of a canon, across the area. And actually, it was a lady!

While our family thoroughly enjoyed the circus last year (while Mommy was pregnant with you), I undoubtedly appreciated the show even more this time around. It such an eclectic and old-world feel.

To say you were fascinated by it all would probably be an understatement.

Granted, your brother was just as intrigued. It is a very unusual event to see people doing the things these amazing performers are able to do.  They truly are talented.

To say you were fascinated by it all would probably be an understatement. h9

During intermission, our family was lucky enough to have one of the clowns come up to our row and talk to us. You loved meeting her! I think if it were up to you, you would have liked for her to hold you for the rest of the show.

To say you were fascinated by it all would probably be an understatement.

Your brother decided he wanted to sit in Mommy’s lap for the 2nd half of the show, so that meant you sat on my lap. You bounced in awe and wonder the whole time!

To say you were fascinated by it all would probably be an understatement.

At 7 months old, I don’t know that you’ll remember anything you saw at the circus today, but I know I definitely look forward to taking you back next year.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Our 1st Time To The Circus- Ringling Bros. Presents LEGENDS! (In Nashville)

Dear Jack,

Your first time to the circus was my first time to the circus too! Our family was able to go see Ringling Bros. Presents LEGENDS! last night, where we live in Nashville, Tennessee.

We went Friday, opening night, but there are still Saturday and Sunday shows as well…

Show Times:

Friday, Jan. 23 – 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 24 – 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 25 – 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Show Times: Friday, Jan. 23 – 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 – 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 – 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

There is no denying that in this 2+ hour show, the entertainment is non-stop. Let’s see if I can remember some highlights of what we saw… thanks to some help from the pictures I took.

Granted, you kept a pretty much baffled look on your face the whole time; having never seen anything like we saw last night at the Ringling Bros. Presents LEGENDS! show.

We saw many kinds of animals, including kangaroos, pigs, and elephants; but you told me that the lions and tigers were your very favorite part of the whole thing. It was pretty fascinating to see one man controlling all those big cats!

There were also the motorcycles that all drove into that sphere and somehow never crashed into each other. We saw the extremely talented acrobats as well. I imagine all they ever do is just practice!

It was like the whole time we were there it was hard to imagine what we were seeing was real.

I think you’re still wondering whether the Chinese dragons where real or not… you really didn’t know what to think of them!

While we were there, we got to hang out with our friends, the Hendricks, who won my ticket giveaway earlier this week.

Our family geniunely had a purely entertaining experience at the circus. I totally would be up for going again. There’s really just nothing else like it.

You even got to stay up past your bedtime! You’re one lucky kid…

We’re Going To Ringling Bros. Presents LEGENDS! This Friday Night, Jan. 23rd

This Friday, I am taking my wife and son to the circus here in Nashville.

Facebook/RinglingBros

Somewhat amazingly, I’ve never been to the circus! But Ringling Bros. is going to be at the Bridgestone Arena all this weekend and we are really looking forward to it.

I was able to ask the ringmaster, Johnathan Lee Iverson, a few questions:

What is a typical day in the life of a circus performer?

The unexpected! There are no typical days at The Greatest Show On Earth.

What’s the closest you’ve come to getting hurt while practicing or performing?

Riding my float. The Ringmaster literally has the safest gig in the entire company.

Do you have to abide by a certain diet to maintain your agility on stage?

I’d like to. It would help with this baby gut of mine. However, no dietary restrictions are imposed. Each artist is responsible for the maintenance of their body.

How do the animals travel from city to city?

Train, truck and trailer.

And… today I’m giving away a set of 4 tickets for the show Friday night, Jan. 23rd at 7 p.m. at Bridgestone Arena.

Update: We have a winner! So the giveaway is now closed:

Did I just win 4 tickets for my family to go see Ringling Bros. Presents LEGENDS! At The Bridgestone Arena for Friday night, Jan. 23rd at 7 p.m.?

If you’re the first person to do so, I will respond by saying yes… After that, I will follow up by getting your family’s name and address to get you all set up with the tickets!
