Dear Holly: Helping Your Brother Decorate the Christmas Tree

6 years, 6 months.

Dear Holly,

This past weekend, as family, we decorated our “Charlie Brown Christmas tree”, as Mommy likes to call it.

My role is always to climb upstairs in the attic and bring it into the living room and then to snap a few pictures of the rest of you actually doing the “fun part”.

After Mommy assembles the tree, you and your brother then take pride in carefully adding all the ornaments.

The system the two of you had set up was that you picked out which ornament would go on the tree next, and then your brother would find the spot on the tree to put it.

It was a family affair!

Dear Holly: Our New Fireplace Warms You Up… Even When It’s Not On?

6 years, 6 months.

Dear Holly,

This past weekend, our new electric fireplace arrived in the mail. To my surprise, it really added a whole lot to the ambience of our living room.

It simply plugs into the electrical outlet- and has an option to use the heater option, the fireplace display, or both at the same time.

Shortly after we got it set up, we had just the fireplace display on.

You ran up to it, bending towards it so you could heat up your buns.

Within seconds, you announced, “Ah, that heat feels good!”

I decided not to reveal to you that there was actually no heat coming from it. You were already convinced!

Dear Jack: You Know How to Identify an Enneagram 4… Blue Hair!

12 years old.

Dear Jack,

While hanging out at Aunt Dana’s house for a couple of days during Thanksgiving Break, she sent me a photo of you making a silly face (the norm these days anytime someone takes a picture of you) and holding a boy doll with blue hair, wearing some unique clothing.

You explained to Aunt Dana that the Enneagram number of this doll would an Enneagram 4, because, “Yep, pretty much anytime someone has crazy colored hair, my dad says they are a 4”.

Very well done. You have definitely been paying attention. It was a year ago that I got my Enneagram Certification, so by default, you hear my assessing of people’s Enneagrams all the time.

You know that Enneagram 4s like to stand out in some way. Blue hair is definitely a way to do that!

Dear Jack: Our Family’s New Saturday Morning Tradition

12 years old.

Dear Jack,

It is now family tradition each Saturday morning that we hang out at The Factory at Franklin, which is about 30 minutes from our house.

This started about a month ago, when I suggested our family go get a donut from Five Daughters Bakery, and then over to Honest Coffee Roasters.

While there, we walked through a shop that had an Enneagram book on display, that decided to buy on a whim.

I turned to the chapter on Enneagram 6, which is what I am, and I read, “My idea of relaxation: A quiet Saturday morning with people I love.”

And now we go to the Franklin Factory every Saturday morning; knowing that however busy our weekend may be, we can at least start it out with a time of fun and relaxation together as a family.

Daddy

Dear Holly: Tastes Like Life Cereal?

6 years, 6 months.

Dear Holly,

Last Saturday morning while our family was hanging out at The Factory in Franklin, you and your brother wanted to get your designated treat at Urban Sips Sweets; a place your brother always likes to get shaved ice at.

Out of the dozens of flavors they have on the menu, you surprisingly chose “sour apple” for yours.

I had my reservations that you would even like it; especially when they had other options that seems more likely for a 6 year-old girl, like “cotton candy” or “birthday cake”.

But you confirmed that you were pleased with your choice of “sour apple”.

You told me, “Daddy, it tastes like Life cereal.”

I’m not sure how, but I’m just glad you liked it!

Love,

Daddy
