Dear Jack: Papa’s “New” Jeep in Big Canoe, GA

10 years, 7 months.

Dear Jack,

Last week our family went back to Big Canoe, Georgia. Back in March, it was for your Spring Break.

But this time, it was for Mommy and me celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary and 4th of July weekend. And this time, Nonna and Papa were there to celebrate with us as well.

I had been telling Papa that just a mile or so away from our cabin, there would be a customized Jeep trail; which only 4×4 vehicles could traverse.

Just in time, Papa bought a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, to go along with my 2010 Jeep Wrangler: “Goldilocks” and “Black Beauty”.

Aside from the swimming pool, I’d say your other favorite memory was getting to ride in the back of Papa’s Jeep.

Compared to my Jeep, both you and Mommy said the seats are more comfortable.

Maybe it’s because his is the fancier version- the Sahara.

Also, I think it’s cool how Papa’s Jeep is from the year Mommy and I graduated high school: 1999.

And mine is from the year you were born: 2010!

Daddy

Dear Holly: McDonald’s Hotcakes are an Event

5 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

Last Wednesday made the first time where I got to witness the very serious ordeal of you getting to enjoy a special breakfast at your preschool: Hotcakes from the drive-thru at McDonald’s!

It was a tradition that apparently started several months ago when one of your friends from school brought some in. From there, the trend caught on among the other students.

Usually I’m the one who picks you up from school and Mommy drops you off.

But last Wednesday, the day before we left for our retreat to Big Canoe, Mommy had to drive to Nashville for work, so your “once a week” hotcakes treat fell on my turn.

You were so proud. You take things very seriously as you spread the butter evenly on them!

It’s hilarious- and it’s very sweet.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your Boyfriend Brooks?

5 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

Since the beginning of mankind, humans have used art as a way to illustrate things that fascinate and inspire them.

This past weekend, you were unashamed in your proclamation of your “boyfriend” Brooks, from your preschool class.

Granted, this is no surprise to me. When Mommy or I go to pick you up in the afternoons from school and Brooks is still there too, he says to you, “Holly… hug!”

Just a few weeks ago, right in front of me, he told you, “Holly, remember… I’m going to marry you one day!”

I’ve even met both of his parents in the process of picking you up from school, too. They have heard the same stories from Brooks.

So I guess we’ll see how all this pans out in about 20 years!

Daddy

Dear Jack: Putting the Hamster in Your Beyblade Stadium

10 years, 7 months.

Dear Jack,

As you get older, it’s only natural that certain toys become less relevant; or at least find a new purpose in entertaining you.

As for your Beyblade Stadium which was the main even a couple of years ago; it has been repurposed as a running track and/or playground for our hamster, Alpha.

He seems to appreciate the change of scenery and environment as well. It’s interesting to watch him become obsessed with trying to rub his scent on it, but it doesn’t work since it’s plastic; as opposed to the wood shavings in his aquarium.

Now we know- Beyblade Stadiums make good hamster playgrounds!

Dear Holly: Your Father’s Day Picture of Me

5 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

I was very proud to receive a picture you colored of me for Father’s Day, that you made at school.

Your teacher had you fill in some blanks about me.

I love your perception of me; like how my pockets are full of money and how said you like the way I make you mac-and-cheese.

And that my favorite food is “pasta with hot sauce”… even though what you are actually watching me eat each night with dinner is sauerkraut with hot sauce.

But my favorite thing is what you said I always say:

“I can plan with you.”

And that’s true. I don’t want to ever miss an opportunity to stop what I’m doing, to spend time having fun with you!

Love,

Daddy
