Dear Holly: I Taught You How to Drive Your Pink Jeep Wrangler This Week

4 years, 11 months.

Dear Holly,

Though you received your pink Jeep as a Christmas gift, the weather’s just now getting nice enough to drive it!

Up until now, your brother has always driven it with you as the passenger.

But this week, you asked me if you could drive it for the first time by yourself. You were ready.

You were hesitant backing it out of the garage. I assured you it was okay, as I instructed you to steer while I pressed the gas pedal with my hand.

By the time you drove out of the garage, you didn’t need any more lessons from me!

You were gone.

To enhance your driving training, your brother chased you on your pink Big Wheels.

You are proud to drive a Jeep like Daddy!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your Tour of Kindergarten This Week!

4 years, 11 months.

Dear Holly,

As you are now just a few weeks away from your 5th birthday, Mommy and I took you this week for your official tour of Kindergarten!

We were in a group of other upcoming Kindergartners; even one from your current preschool.

Once you begin Kindergarten this fall, it will be the only year that you and your brother will be at the same school at the same time; as he will be in the oldest grade of the school, as a 5th grader.

You are very excited about starting Kindergarten; which happens to be at the biggest elementary school in our county, which happens to be in walking distance of our house.

I am confident you are going to love it!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: An Easter Egg “Hunt” to a 10 Year-Old Boy

10 years, 4 months.

Dear Jack,

As a nearly 10 and a half year-old 4th grader, you’re technically a preteen. That’s how I see you at this point.

And this past Easter weekend, I noticed how you were one of the oldest the church egg hunt at Nonna’s and Papa’s.

For you, the egg hunt meant an emphasis on the word hunt.

You definitely scored big when it came to your candy collection.

Once it was over, you began a very business-minded candy trade ring.

I even heard you convince a friend to give you the dollar that received in one egg, in exchange for a candy bar you traded them.

Sounds about right!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your Sick Day Home with Me

4 years, 11 months.

Dear Holly,

This week you and I had a special day where you encountered a 24 hour stomach bug and needed to stay home while I worked from the kitchen table. It just so randomly happened Mommy had to drive to work in Nashville that day; and of course your brother was at his school.

I set you up your own space by placing your bed blankets on our living room rug. You fell asleep within minute and stayed asleep for 2 and a half hours of the morning, despite me making calls in the kitchen.

When you woke up, you felt so much better; turning your floor space into a board game center.

I was sad to see you sick, but happy to take care of you!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Building and Testing an Erector Race Car with Papa

10 years, 3 months.

Dear Jack,

Though I was convinced you had already spent the rest of your Christmas money a while back, you surprised me by revealing that you still had a leftover Target gift card.

After careful research there in the toy section, I brought to your attention a $15 race car, made by the brand, Erector.

You decided this was the most exciting way to spend your money, but specifically stated that you wanted to wait to build the car the next time you were with Papa.

And that’s exactly what you did.

Not only did the two of you spend a couple of hours building it, but you also tested it out on cool ramps.

Good thing you have Papa to help you with stuff like that, because I am confident I would be useless in a project so technical!

Love,

Daddy
