Dear Jack: You’re Not Too Old to Want to Play in the Snow with Your Family

13 years, 2 months.

Dear Jack,

At age 13, I perceive you as definitely old enough to go out and play in the snow by yourself; as the weather has caused school to be cancelled all this week.

But instead, you choose to spend your daily outside hour in the 13 degree weather with your family.

You helped push Mommy and your sister in the sled in our cul-de-sac, for the 15 minutes they spent in the snow this week.

As for the other days, I have pushed you down the much bigger hill in the sled, as well as taken you out on the frozen pond for, you know… the fun/dangerous activities!

You’re not a little boy anymore, but I definitely recognize the moments that remind me of those years.

During our time sledding at one point this week, a middle-aged man walked by, recognizing the father/son activity we were enjoying and simply said to me, “Good memories.”

Daddy

Dear Jack: Your Sesame Street Shoe Charms for Your Crocs

12 years, 10 months.

Dear Jack,

While your growing Nike collection is definitely important to you as a 7th grader, I was somewhat surprised to learn that you also needed a $50 pair of white Crocs to wear to school as well.

I did not realize they are so fashionable these days.

When you came home from shopping for your new Crocs with Mommy, you proudly showed me the “shoe charms” you picked out to decorate your new shows with:

Elmo and Cookie Monster from Sesame Street!

That immediately served as a flashback for me, as you used to have little stuffed animals of those two characters when you were really young.

So it’s interesting to see them both rebooted for the nearly teenager version of the same kid!

Daddy

Dear Holly: You Chose the Jelly Cat Bunny I Got You as Your Favorite Toy

7 years.

Dear Holly,

Back in 2015, when Mommy was only 21 weeks pregnant with you, I bought you a very special stuffed bunny; in anticipation of you being born.

Here we are, 7 and a half years later, and I learned this week that you chose that Jelly Cat bunny to use in a special project for school, about your favorite toy.

You explained, “One reason is it is soft. Another reason is it is from my dad and it is really special.”

I have always been aware of an exclusive bond that you and I share.

To quote one of my favorite bands ever Oasis, “I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now.”

It means so much to me that you chose the bunny I got you 6 months before you were born.

Daddy

Dear Holly: A Father’s Letter to His Daughter on Her 7th Birthday

7 years old today!

Dear Holly,

Thinking back to seven years ago on the day you were born and how I imagined you would be as a little girl, I would say my predictions were spot on.

You are so joyful, so adventurous, and so sweet.

After all, your middle name is Joy, and you have definitely lived up to that name!

I am actively reminding myself now that my youngest child is 7 years old, this is basically the last call for certain things a kid will do in my house.

Like last week when you turned a shipping box in to a car, using your imagination.

I cherish every moment I have with you. I celebrate your childhood. I don’t take having a beautiful young daughter for granted.

Hapy 7th Birthday!

I love you so much!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: The Card Trading Convention with Uncle Andrew

12 years, 4 months.

Dear Jack,

As Uncle Andrew has been looking into trading some of his old sports cards, he thought of you when he decided to go to the card trading convention last weekend.

You proudly brought your old Pokemon cards in a huge binder, to use as potential trading currency.

Mommy and I also gave you a 20 dollar bill, to make things a little more fun.

You ended up selling two of your Pokemon cards to some randown grown man, for $35.

Therefore, you were able to buy several other cards and cars that you saw there, without even needing the $20 we gave you.

Which, speaking of… I’m not sure you got that 20 dollar bill back from you!

Love,

Daddy
