Dear Holly: Your New Pink Rainbow Bedroom, As You Are Now 4 and Half Years Old

4 years, 6 months.

Dear Holly,

This past week you turned 4 and a half years old! It just so happened that we got finished with your bedroom makeover too.

Your bedroom is now painted the color, Ballet Slipper Pink. This is perfect, as you are currently taking ballet lessons.

We also got you a pink rainbow decal with pink butterflies to go above your bed.

I keep forgetting this is your final your of pre-school; specifically Pre-K. A year from now, you will be well into Kindergarten.

I can honestly say, I don’t take one minute for granted with you. I’m living in the moment as much as any Daddy possibly can.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Trying Out the Games for Your Halloween Birthday Party

9 years, 11 months.

Dear Jack,

For many weeks now, we have been planning for your upcoming Halloween-themed birthday party. One of the games you came up with was “Dodgeball with a Giant Eyeball”.

Therefore, you and your sister have been sort of practicing in the living room after dinner while Mommy and I clean up the kitchen.

It’s especially funny because the inflatable eyeball is nearly as big as your sister!

I’ve already told you that I’ve predicted by the time that eyeball makes it through a game of dodgeball with a group of 10 year-old boys, it probably won’t be inflatable anymore!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: You Were Elected for Student Council for Your Class!

9 years, 11 months.

Dear Jack,

This week was huge for you! When you came home from school on Tuesday, you explained to Mommy and me that you had decided to run for Student Council for your 4th grade class. One boy and one girl would be elected by your own classmates, based on the speech you would write and then present.

You were completely confident as I walked you to school the next day; as I had you practice your speech one last time.

When you came home that afternoon, you immediately announced, “I won! They voted for me and I got the most votes!”

I replied, “Of course they did!”

I am so proud of you. It was your idea to run.

That’s the part that makes me proudest.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: The Big Tractor in the Field Behind Our House

4 years, 5 months.

Dear Holly,

To my amazement, after living in our home new nearly 6 years now, they still haven’t turned the soybean field behind our house into a new home development… yet.

This week, it was time to harvest the crops. So after dinner Tuesday night, a man in a huge tractor drove right behind our house.

You and your brother went outside on the trampoline on the back deck to wave at him.

It was a big deal!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Our Friday Off Together

9 years, 10 months.

Dear Jack,

Last Friday went perfectly! I took the day off to spend with you during your Fall Break.

We spent the morning going on a long hike that led us to a cool creek where you got to play in the mud and clay- then I took you out for donuts.

It was definitely a nice change of place.

Then on Saturday morning, you and I went apple picking in the light rain.

Even though you’re now a month away from turning 10, you still reached out to hold my hand during our hike on Friday. That means a lot to me.

Love,

Daddy
