Dear Jack: People Instantly Notice and Compliment You on Your Hair

12 years, 9 months.

Dear Jack,

You are officially all set to start 7th grade next week. You’ve got the shoes, the clothes, the backback…

And of course, the hairstyle!

We’re at the point now where when we are out in public, people will actually say to you, “Cool hair!”

You try to hide how proud you are of your hair, but I know it means a lot to you to have the official American teenage boy hairstyle.

I’ve noticed how here at the end of the summer, you will style your hair even if you are just going outside to ride your bike.

It’s a big deal to you!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: The Dance Class You are Teaching at Our House?

7 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

One of your daily activities this summer, while Mommy and I are both working, is to teach yourself how to dance; thanks to YouTube.

Last week, I happened to step in the room while you were actually leading a dance class of your own; to teach your stuffed aninals how to dance.

It is fascinating to me see show how a 7 year-old girl keeps herself entertained during the summer.

Granted, Mommy and I are also sending you to actual dance classes this summer as well.

But now I am starting to wonder about the possibility of you teaching yourself just as much about dancing. I wouldn’t be surprised, knowing you.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your Father’s Day Card You Made For Me

7 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

Leading up to Father’s Day last week, I found a little surprise in my notebook for work: “I love you, Daddy.”

So it was no surprise to when it actually was Father’s Day, you gave me a special homemade card that you had worked on all week.

You are wired like I am:

When it comes to the 5 Love Languages, Words of Affirmation is at the top!

Something that makes it so easy to appreciate you and relate to is that you make a point to tell your family how much they mean to you!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your Shorter Haircut for the Summer

7 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

I was so happy to see you walk through the door as Mommy brought you back from getting your hair cut with her at the salon.

She had mentioned to me that you may want to get your hair cut shorter for the summer.

You got several inches taken off- and it looks so good!

Not to mention, when I dry and brush your hair each night after I give you your bath, it’s a lot less work; now that it doesn’t get tangled up as easy.

I liked your long hair before, but I like your shorter hair even more!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Mommy is the Bravest and Smartest in Our Family?

7 years, 1 month.

Dear Holly,

Hanging up on our fridge, for the past few weeks now, is a Mother’s Day card you made; which gives a rundown of how Mommy compares to everyone in our family.

You declared that Mommy is stronger and cooler than you, smarter than me, and braver than your brother.

I was expecting him to get defensive when we read the card out loud at dinner. But no.

Instead, he immediately agreed than Mommy is braver than he is. And sure, I didn’t have a problem admitting Mommy is smarter than me.

So I guess your Mother’s Day card was accurate!

Love,

Daddy
