Dear Holly: You are Going to Be the Flower Girl This Weekend!

5 years, 4 months.

Dear Holly,

This has been a long time in the making… that this weekend, after well over a year of planning, you are going to be the flower girl in our friend’s wedding!

I heard that Mommy is going to accommodate you as you get your hair professionally styled for the event. It’s going to be a big deal!

I will be so proud to be taking pictures of you the whole time. I know that you are going to feel like a real little princess.

Not to mention, this will also be the first wedding you’ve ever gone to that you’ll actually be old enough to remember.

Dear Jack: Your Taekwondo Class’s Picnic

10 years, 10 months.

Dear Jack,

You started taking Taekwondo lessons at the perfect time.

Not only has it been a great way to start something new as your 5th grade year began, but there just happened to be a picnic at the park near us so all the students and their families could enjoy some time together.

And Nonna and Papa just happened to be in town to be able to see how happy you are to be in Taekwondo.

They definitely also appreciated, as did I, being able to enjoy some authentic Korean kimchi at lunch; along with some other Korean dishes.

I am very proud of you for taking Taekwondo- and I know you are too!

Dear Jack: Holding the “Kitty Burrito” in the Golf Cart

10 years, 9 months.

Dear Jack,

We spent Labor Day weekend in Alabama, where you were able to have an ongoing sleepover at your cousins’ house.

It was a perfect time for you to be able to ride in, and drive, your Uncle Andrew’s new golf cart.

I happened to be there when you swooped up when of their pet cats in a towel in would I would understandably call a “kitty burrito”.

I’m not sure that the cat should have enjoyed her ride on the golf cart while wrapped up in a towel, but apparently she did.

Because she definitely made no effort to squirm.

Maybe it was somehow soothing, like a day at the spa.

Dear Holly: Your First Time at a Japanese Steak House

5 years, 4 months.

Dear Holly,

This past weekend you got to go to a dinner theater, of sorts. We went to a Japanese steak house and it just so happened that you got a front row seat for all the action!

The show started out with a bang… or should I say, flame.

I held on to you tightly as we felt the heat and saw the huge flame right in front of us.

But in addition to being entertained by watching our food get cooked in real time, you also truly enjoyed the meal!

I’m glad we were able to go there and have a great time together.

Dear Jack: Our New Pet Hamster, Beta “Bear” Shell

10 years, 9 months.

Dear Jack,

Two weeks. Two whole weeks.

That’s how long we made it as a family before we collectively decided we were ready to have a pet hamster again; after processing the loss of our first hamster, Alpha.

A conversation never had to take place as a family as to what our new hamster’s name would be.

Clearly, Alpha was the first… so Beta would be the second.

I think we are the perfect owners for Beta; as he didn’t get adopted until later. He is already about 6 months old, whereas Alpha was closer to 3 months old.

Beta is not as tame as Alpha was, but Beta is also a lot more independent. Not all hamsters have the same personality.

Who knows? Maybe Beta will eventually want to be held as much as Alpha did. But for now, he’s at peace just hanging out in his aquarium and playing in the cardboard mansions you make him.
