Dear Holly: I Let You Get a New Barbie Doll… Because?

6 years, 5 months.

Dear Holly,

This past Saturday while Mommy and your brother were out at a boat race in Nashville, you and I got to spend the day together.

I took you to the farmers’ market, to the mall, and out for coffee; where you got pumpkin spice cake.

Apparently, you and Mommy had worked out some kind of agreement and understanding that you could buy a toy, with a budget of $15, simply because it’s been so long since your birthday, and it’s still a couple months away until Christmas.

When it was all said and done, I let you get a $20 Barbie.

Not sure how that all works out…

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: It’s Fun to “Do Nothing” at the House!

6 years, 4 months.

Dear Holly,

I love relaxing weekends where we don’t have to go anywhere; when we can just hang out as a family at the house and do whatever we feel like doing.

No errands. No shopping. No house cleaning.

Last weekend was a weekend like that.

I was so happy to see you and Mommy take some time to paint at the kitchen table, as I read through my current Enneagram book.

As as family, we are collectively artistic. And it can be easy to forget that when “real life” gets in the way of… real life.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: You Love the Fall Season!

6 years, 4 months.

Dear Holly,

Today is the first day of Fall- and you have been looking forward to it for weeks now!

Most mornings before school, I take you on a walk.

Nearly everyday you tell me, “Daddy, I don’t like the summer- it’s too hot and there’s too many bugs. I like the Fall and Winter the best!”

To that, I would also add how easily you can get sunburned, or at least turn pick, in the summer; as compared to being outside in the Fall.

I am already picturing you as a teenager, getting all excited about Pumpkin Spice Lattes when it turns Autumn.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Your Ninja Warrior Classes

11 years, 10 months.

Dear Jack,

For over a month now, you have been going to “American Ninja” classes for an hour every Monday night.

I can confirm that is the perfect weekly activity for you. Not only are you able to burn off a lot of energy, but it also challenges you with new and exciting physical risks.

Keep in mind this sort of thing didn’t exist when I was young. But it did, I totally would have done it.

I have already noticed your newest habit of jumping off walls wherever we are now in public.

I can’t blaming you for practicing!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Your 1st School Dance… With Girls!

11 years, 10 months.

Dear Jack,

Last Friday night, Mommy and I drove you and your best friend Landon to your first school dance! And yes, a dance where there were girls.

However, you were super chill about the whole thing. But it was very important to you that you were able to go.

I kept asking, “Are you sure you are going to feel comfortable wearing a t-shirt? Are you sure you won’t feel underdressed?”

To be sure, I snuck a few button down shirts in the car just in case.

But sure enough, this apparently was a very casual middle school dance where no one really dressed up.

You confirmed that boys and girls in 6th grade weren’t really dancing with each other.

It mainly was just a way to hang out. Either way, you were so glad you went!

Love,

Daddy
