Dear Jack: An Easter Egg “Hunt” to a 10 Year-Old Boy

10 years, 4 months.

Dear Jack,

As a nearly 10 and a half year-old 4th grader, you’re technically a preteen. That’s how I see you at this point.

And this past Easter weekend, I noticed how you were one of the oldest the church egg hunt at Nonna’s and Papa’s.

For you, the egg hunt meant an emphasis on the word hunt.

You definitely scored big when it came to your candy collection.

Once it was over, you began a very business-minded candy trade ring.

I even heard you convince a friend to give you the dollar that received in one egg, in exchange for a candy bar you traded them.

Sounds about right!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: After School Target Practice in the Backyard

10 years, 4 months.

Dear Jack,

Springtime means more daylight when you get home from school. So we have been taking advantage of this by doing target practice with your BB gun in our background.

You carefully designed a target out of poster board for us to shoot. And I have been lining up empty seltzer water cans on the fence post.

Another way you’ve been getting practice is with the new wildlife hunting game you’ve been playing on your laptop.

Mommy and I even asked you this week if you think you would eventually be interested in learning to hunt. You are pretty curious to the idea, actually.

A bit ironic for our vegetarian son to consider hunting animals!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your Sick Day Home with Me

4 years, 11 months.

Dear Holly,

This week you and I had a special day where you encountered a 24 hour stomach bug and needed to stay home while I worked from the kitchen table. It just so randomly happened Mommy had to drive to work in Nashville that day; and of course your brother was at his school.

I set you up your own space by placing your bed blankets on our living room rug. You fell asleep within minute and stayed asleep for 2 and a half hours of the morning, despite me making calls in the kitchen.

When you woke up, you felt so much better; turning your floor space into a board game center.

I was sad to see you sick, but happy to take care of you!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Your New Trusty Slingshot

10 years, 4 months.

Dear Jack,

I was curious what would end up being your souvenirs from our trip to Georgia.

Obviously, the best place for your sister to buy a souvenir was the Cabbage Patch place in Cleveland.

But the best place for you to buy a souvenir was in Helen, the town where our family rode the Georgia Mountain Coaster.

You chose a really nice (and expensive!) sweatshirt that you wear every morning now on our walk to school…

And your very first slingshot, which you definitely enjoyed shooting rocks from the back porch of cabin we stayed in.

It’s such a 10 year-old boy kind of souvenir!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Visiting Cabbage Patch Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, GA

4 years, 11 months.

Dear Holly,

Last week on our family Spring Break, one of the stops on our tour of northern Georgia was the Cabbage Patch Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia.

Mommy and I had visited there back before you or your brother were born, but we had never been since we had kids; as funny as that sounds!

Of course, we couldn’t leave without you adopting a baby from there.

You chose a little one named Ruby.

For the rest of our stay in Georgia, and everyday since then, you have taken very good care of her!

Love,

Daddy
