My Dad’s 1963 Ford Falcon Futura (Video and Picture Collages)

During Thanksgiving weekend, I shot this video (below) for my dad; featuring his 1963 Ford Falcon Futura.

This car was originally bought by his grandfather, then passed on to his dad; and then to my dad, in 1990. He has only made a few changes from the original 170 CI 2 speed automatic car he received.

The color is Red Fire with white interior and the engine is a  250 CI Inline 6 with stainless steel headers, dual exhaust, electronic ignition, 264/274 -110 Clay Smith cam.

The head is milled .060” ported and polished.

He cut off the log intake and build a custom 4 barrel intake with a 390 CFM Holley carburetor and larger stainless valves. It has a custom handmade polished aluminum cold air induction; as well as an electric fan & fuel pump.

The transmission is an automatic overdrive. It has 8” rear end with 17” wheels.

There is no doubt, this is not only a sharp looking car, but it has the power as well.

Though I’m sure it was a glorious car back in 1963 when it was made, I think it probably turns more heads now; since you don’t regularly see cars like this one on the road anymore; especially not this well-kept.

My dad is the ultimate handyman and car enthusiast. I wish I had half of his skills and abilities when it comes to things like that.

But what I can do is produce videos and put them on YouTube. So between the two of us, we are able to present to the world not only this  official video for my dad’s 1963 Ford Falcon Futura; but this blog post as well, featuring these picture collages.

By the way, I love how at the end of the video, the Falcon leaves smoke tracks like the Delorean in Back to the Future.

In case you missed that video, here it is again…

My Kid Thinks All Mustang Owners Are Racecar Drivers

September 24, 2013 at 9:59 pm , by

2 years, 10 months.

Dear Jack,

You can now correctly identify Ford Mustangs from across any intersection.

I didn’t teach you that- how did you learn that?

As we pulled into the school parking lot today, I remembered that one of your teachers, Ms. Debbie, owns a Mustang- so I parked next to it so you could see one up close.

You proudly posed for your picture next to it.

“She drives a Mustang racecar? We go to the race? I want to see Ms. Debbie race,” you told me.

When we got inside, I explained to Ms. Debbie that you believe she is a racecar driver.

It was a classic moment for me, getting to relate that hilarious information to her.

She was flattered… I think.

Then when I came to pick you up at the end of the day, I saw another Mustang convertible in the parking lot.

I had totally forgotten that another one of your teachers, Ms. Chastity, also drivers one too!

You didn’t know what to think after learning that…

Two of your teachers are racecar drivers, because, after all:

All Mustangs are racecars, therefore the people who drive them are automatically racecar drivers who compete in races.

Even now, I’m afraid to disappoint you by making the truth clear about your teachers and their Mustangs.

I’d rather you just believe that two of your teachers race each other each weekend at the Nashville Speedway.

As I parked the car at our house this afternoon, I reminded you that you have a blue toy Mustang with all your other cars in our living room.

“I do?!” you answered, very surprised.

Needless to say, you had a very exciting and pleasant dinner tonight, with your Mustang accompanying you.

I am going to be amazed if you don’t end up becoming a major car enthusiast.

It really makes me curious what you’ll have for your first car.

Well, we still have another 13 years to figure that out.

Until then, you keep doing your research. Who knows?

Maybe you’ll end up driving (and therefore, racing) a Mustang!

Love,

Daddy

A Snapshot’s Worth a Thousand Words: At My Parents’ House in Alabama

Here are 17 snapshots.  Plus the 301 words in the body of this post, not including this heading.  You’re dealing with around 2001 words, my friends.

Today I’m taking a break from writing to share some random items in my parents’ house in Alabama, where my wife and I spent the weekend.  It’s true that every picture has a story.  And these little stories make up our lives- they make up who we are.  So by looking through these snapshots of the house I grew up in, you’re taking a look into my memory pool- the same one I use to write from.

This is Samantha Shell.  In September, she turned 20 years old.  Samantha is a Cockatiel.

This is one of two windows in my bedroom.  My parents bought that little guitar for me when they went to The Philippines in 1995.

This is my sister’s bedroom, which has recently been transformed into a guest nursery for Baby Jack.

Here is my dad’s 1988 Ford Ranger he bought nearly new.  It’s still his main vehicle.

You never know when you might have to blow your nose while driving to work; less than a 10 minute drive for him.

He put these plastic lizard in the dashboard several years ago.  He says it successfully scares away flies.

This cross used to be dark red and white.  It was crocheted circa 1993 and has been hanging on his mirror since then.

This cross is my Italian grandfather’s.

And it opens up, as my mom demonstrates.

Two monkeys and my sister the ballerina.

Yours truly, from 1986 to 1999.

My parents and I in 1982.

My friend David Smith and I broke this Nashville mug that my dad bought for my mom when he went on a business trip.  We stayed up until after 1 AM to superglue it back together.  I’m not sure that it actually still holds liquid.

Classic frog and shroom.

My sister and I in 1991.

Local newspaper clips on the fridge. Busted!

Double busted!
