Dear Jack: Taekwondo is a Great Fit for You!

10 years, 9 months.

Dear Jack,

For the past few years now, you’ve been asking to take martial arts lessons. Well, the time has finally come:

You officially started taking taekwondo last week at a place right around the corner from where we live.

I can appreciate being there to watch you during your lessons. It’s obvious you need and crave the organized structure. You also specifically like the fact that so much of the lesson is spoken in Korean.

You started just in time, because they are having an official picnic at the park for all the students and parents to be able to meet each other.

I am so happy to be involved in taking you to these classes and see your appreciation of being there.

Dear Holly: You Started Taking Gymnastics This Week!

5 years, 3 months.

Dear Holly,

After your successful dance recital this summer, you decided your next challenge to take on shall be gymnastics class.

So now, every Tuesday night, while I take your brother to taekwondo, Mommy drives you to the other side of town for gymnastics.

I’ve been noticing how you always look for a way to turn anything into a balance beam.

Like this past weekend when our family visited Hatcher Family Dairy and you insisted on walking along the rock path, which was a bit of a drop down to the grass.

I think you are going to love gymnastics class!

Dear Holly: Your 1st Day of Kindergarten is Today!

5 years, 3 months.

Dear Holly,

This morning, Mommy and I will be tool you to school, for your very first day of Kindergarten!

You are so excited that this time has finally come. I am already imagining all the friends you will soon make- as well as how much you will love your teacher.

I’m so glad that your brother will be there with you at the same school, especially as he be next to you as you ride the bus.

There’s no part of you that seems nervous about starting Kindergarten. I’m convinced- you’re gonna love it!

Dear Jack: Your Swimming Pool in the Garage

10 years, 8 months.

Dear Jack,

As the summer comes to a close, we’ve finally put our $20 swimming pool to use for the first time this week.

But to avoid sunburn and exhaustion, we decided it was best to put the pool in the garage. That way you still get the fresh air and heat from being outside, without it being too much.

So each afternoon this week, your friend Landon has come over to play in the “garage pool” with you.

The two of you seem to mutually appreciate our family’s new entertainment venue.

But based on the fact I have to keep refilling the air in it every morning, I’m putting sure that the majority of the $20 we spent on it is nearly all gone. In order words, we got our money’s worth!

Dear Holly: Your Boyfriend Brooks?

5 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

Since the beginning of mankind, humans have used art as a way to illustrate things that fascinate and inspire them.

This past weekend, you were unashamed in your proclamation of your “boyfriend” Brooks, from your preschool class.

Granted, this is no surprise to me. When Mommy or I go to pick you up in the afternoons from school and Brooks is still there too, he says to you, “Holly… hug!”

Just a few weeks ago, right in front of me, he told you, “Holly, remember… I’m going to marry you one day!”

I’ve even met both of his parents in the process of picking you up from school, too. They have heard the same stories from Brooks.

So I guess we’ll see how all this pans out in about 20 years!
