Dear Holly: Your Gymnastics Lesson of a Birthday Party

3 years.

Dear Holly,

For your official 3rd birthday party, we booked you a gymnastics lesson at the rec center right around the corner from our house.

You loved being able to get an idea of what gymnastics is like; alongside your party friends.

The lesson actually took place while the parents socialized in the room down the hall. Then, when it was time, we all came in to see you and your party friends individually trek through the obstacle course.

I’m glad we chose this for your birthday party. It was so appropriate for a 3 year-old little girl!

Dear Jack: You Were the Court Jester at Your Sister’s Birthday Party

8 years, 5 months.

Dear Jack,

This past weekend we celebrated your sister’s birthday at the rec center near our house. You weren’t too excited by the idea of a gymnastics lesson with a bunch of 3 year-old girls.

Instead, you appointed yourself as the court jester of the party.

You discovered that you could successfully wear 5 pink birthday party hats all at once.

Looking back on every photo I took of you during her party, I realize there wasn’t one normal picture of you.

Every single photo is of you showing off your ability to wear all those party hats.

But if that means I was able to capture some shots of you actually being you at this age, I’d rather have that anyway!

Dear Jack: You Helped Your Sister Open Her Birthday Presents

8 years, 5 months.

Dear Jack,

A week ago for your sister’s birthday, you asked her if she wanted help opening her presents from Mommy and me. She accepted your offer, without hesitation.

You were genuinely happy for her for each new gift she opened.

Granted, I don’t believe there were any toys that you would even be interested in playing with.

You just wanted to do your part in helping your celebrate her 3rd birthday.

And you definitely did help make her big day feel that much more special, because you were right there next to her during the whole thing.

Dear Holly: You Successfully Crashed Your Brother’s Classmate’s Birthday Party

2 years, 10 months.

Dear Holly,

Your brother was invited to one of his girl classmate’s birthday party at a fun gymnasium.

It happened to be the weekend where Nonna and Papa were in town to watch you and your brother.

I suggested that you just “crash” the birthday party.

Fortunately, that plan came together. Even though you were noticeably younger and smaller than all the other “party friends”, that didn’t stop you from trying everything you brother did.

Granted, there were times your brother had to help you.

But you loved it! Good thing you decided to be a party crasher!

With my daughter turning 2 years old in April, I figured it would be a good idea to share the “gift search experience” with anyone else out there who is also deciding what to get a 2 year-old little girl they know.
