Dear Holly: No Adults Required When You’re With Your Cousin

4 years, 9 months.

Dear Holly,

Two things are certain when we visit Aunt Dana in Alabama: A) You’re going to have fun. B) I will hardly see you the whole time.

With your cousin Darla, the two of you easily keep yourselves entertained; especially with all the dolls and toys there.

Last weekend when we were visiting there, Mommy and I needed to sneak out to the store to pick up some dinner to cook, and you never even knew we left the house!

Really, it’s like no adults are required when you are with your cousin, who is the same age as you!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Your 1st Real Snow, In February 2021

4 years, 9 months.

Dear Holly,

It snows at least once a year here in Tennessee, but only once every several years we do have a decent blizzard allows all the kids to be out of school for a week and play in the snow for multiple days.

So with you being almost 5 years old, it’s taken your entire life for you to really get a chance to play in snow.

Yesterday, Mommy and your brother took turns taking you down the cul-de-sac in our sled.

Plus, you simply loved just walking around and marveling at the concept of snow all around you!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: What Your Classmates Said About You on Valentine’s Day

10 years, 3 months.

Dear Jack,

When I try to imagine what you are like at school, I imagine a boy who is not afraid to raise his hand to give the teacher the correct answer or to ask a relevant question.

I imagine a very studious boy who takes rules very seriously.

And I definitely am right about my perception.

However, last week I learned beyond that, how your classmates perceive you.

For Valentine’s Day, your teacher had all of you students write an adjective about each student.

The majority of your classmates chose to the word “funny”!

I knew you were smart, but I didn’t realize you also make your classmates laugh so much!

That’s… funny!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Silly Saturday Morning Dress Up

10 years, 2 months.

Dear Jack,

Last Saturday morning while Mommy and I were getting the house cleaned, you helped us out by taking care of your sister.

I gave zero thought to whatever was keeping the two of you entertained upstairs. I was just glad you were able to entertain yourselves and have fun; as kids should on a Saturday morning.

Once the cleaning was complete, you and your sister ceremonially made your way down the stairs for the big reveal.

You were both dressed up as some strange mix of superheroes and warriors; weapons included.

That’s a Saturday morning well spent!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Friday and Saturday Movie Night!

4 years, 9 months.

Dear Holly,

One of the many new additions to our home, in the midst of our home recent makeover, has been the new folding cushion beds.

While you do enjoy setting them up downstairs in the living room to “make a house”, their main purpose is to be used as beds/couches for our bonus room upstairs.

We now have a new tradition everyday Friday and Saturday night of letting you and your brother pick out a movie and fall asleep up there afterwards.

It’s more fun to sleep there because it’s somewhere other than your own bedroom.

And Mommy and I like it because it makes the bedtime routine much easier for us! The two of you basically just put yourselves to bed on those nights.

Love,

Daddy
