Dear Jack: Access to a Pet Bunny

14 years, 8 months.

Dear Jack,

Throughout your entire life, you have always been drawn to animals. You just seem to speak their language.

Your cousin Calla got a bunny named Hazel for her recent 14th birthday. Lucky for you, we live just down the street.

So that means for the rest of the summer, you get to hang out with Hazel whenever you feel like it.

It’s clear that Hazel likes you.

Not only do you do a great job keeping her entertained, but you help her get rest as well:

She fell asleep in your arms.

I love it that my sister has a bunny at her house… and that I don’t!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: Playing with Your Dolls This Summer

9 years, 2 months.

Dear Holly,

My office is my bedroom. Most of the day, the door is shut and it’s actually pretty rare that I come out; even for food.

But when I do, I love it when I see you out on the living room floor playing with your dolls.

You easily spend hours at a time in your own little world; carefully feeding them, entertaining them, and helping them fall asleep to take their naps.

This is what I want to see from my 9 year-old little girl when I step out of my office.

It’s just perfect.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Serving Ice Cream to Your Sister

14 years, 8 months.

Dear Jack,

As I was finishing up washing the dishes in the kitchen, I heard you and your sister laughing in the dining room.

You took it upon yourself to make ice cream sundaes for the two of you. Apparently what caused the laughter was that you accidently gave her way too much whipped cream; to the point there was more of it than there was ice cream.

This really is becoming the norm: That you find ways to help and serve your sister, which often leads to the two of you laughing together and having fun.

It is such a reward as a parent for me to see this development.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: Doctor Squish Squishy Maker

14 years, 8 months.

Dear Jack,

I love to see how it is a regular thing now for you to proactively find ways to help your sister. It was the middle of the week during the middle of the day, while Mommy and I were both working.

Your sister needed something new and creative to work on, so we pulled out one of her birthday gifts she got a few months ago: Doctor Squish Squishy Maker.

Thanks to you, she was able to make sort some of slime-filled water balloon ball.

I guess in a way, it felt like we had a “3rd parent” there to help entertain your sister while we worked. I really like this concept because it’s not only helping Mommy and me, but I know it means a lot to your sister as well; as it provides quality time for you and her.

Love,

Daddy

Dear Holly: VBS Week

9 years, 1 month.

Dear Holly,

When I think of my own summers growing up in this town, a major event was always going to Vacation Bible School.

Nonna was able to not only take you there with your cousin Darla, but also take you back to her house afterwards.

Since Mommy and I both work from home, I love it that you have places to go and people to take you there during the summer.

While hanging out at the house is definitely an important part of a kid’s summer, so is getting out and doing fun activities with other people.

I can tell your summer is offer to a great start!

Love,

Daddy
