Dear Jack: Not in a Hurry to Drive a Car

15 years, 8 months.

Dear Jack,

When I was your age, just months away from my 16th birthday and with my driver’s permit, I took every single opporunity to drive a car.

But that is definitely not the case for you. And I am in the process of accepting that this is a common trait among your generation: Generation Z.

Compared to my generation, you already have instant access to socializing in a way I never did: Thanks to smartphones.

Specifically for you, you own two dirtbikes and a side-by-side. So you are able to get where you need to go around our neighborhood and surrounding ones.

And you love to study and research the new and upcoming vehicles these off-roading companies are coming out with.

You are much more interested in off-roading vehicles than “on-roading” ones!

Love,

Daddy

Dear Jack: You Now Have Your Learner’s Permit

15 years, 7 months.

Dear Jack,

I guess when you already drive around your UTV and your dirtbike everyday, maybe getting your learner’s permit isn’t such a big deal?

As your freshman year of high school came to a close last week, it coincided with you finally obtaining your learner’s permit.

That means in about 6 months, you could have your actual driver’s license.

Oh, right… This means I need to start letting you drive the car while I’m in the passenger seat.

Hmm… I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about that!

Love,

Daddy
