It’s official. I was right as a 9 year-old kid: Learning to write in cursive was pointless. Not that I didn’t enjoy it. It actually was pretty fun to get to do my homework assignments in a silly, outdated font.
Today, cursive is used for only one thing. Writing a signature. And I do it almost every day. So it seems that all was really necessary in 3rd grade was to learn how to write my name in cursive.
No one wants to read somebody else’s cursive writing. It’s completely impractical. In a world of e-mails and laptops, we have to call cursive writing what it is. An adorable tradition. Like fruitcake for Christmas.
