Nick Shell headshot Family Friendly Daddy Blog

Hi, I’m Nick Shell.

I grew up in a small town called Fort Payne, AL. I graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA in 2005 with a B.A. in English and taught English in Bangkok, Thailand in 2003 and 2004. I met my wife, Jill, at a taping of “CMT Crossroads” while living in Nashville, TN. Our son, Jack, was born in November 2010.

From May 2011 to June 2014, I was the officially daddy blogger of Parents.com- the website for Parents Magazine. My daily blog for them was called The Dadabase. For more than 1,000 posts, I covered anything and everything that possibility be related to fatherhood.

You may contact me at nickshell1983@hotmail.com; especially if you are interested in reaching out to me in regards to reviewing cars, toys, vegan food, travel spots… basically anything I can review from a family friendly perspective.

Here is an example of my work reviewing cars: 2014 Toyota Prius.

Below is a recap of my writing career so far:

I was featured in the November 2010 issue of American Baby magazine and three times on WordPress’s “Freshly Pressed” home page.

After the first year of writing my weekly daddy blog “dad from day one” here on WordPress, Parents.com chose to pick up and reboot my series for their website, making me their officially daddy blogger. Click on the link to take a look:

    • Ha ha. A lot of it involves submitting countless “queries” to potential publishers like magazines and websites. The way I got started was to read “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Publishing Magazine Articles”. True story.

  3. Hi Nick,
I’m a freshman at Temple University, and for a research paper, I’ve decided to write about pot-heads, and the stigmas and stereotypes about them.
I was wondering if it’d be alright if I quoted you in my paper.
Also, I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of some of your sources. It would be a tremendous help in writing my paper.

    Thanks so much!

  4. Nick, I don’t exactly know how I ended up on your website blog or whatever it is, but I have been suffering with eczema/psoriasis on my hands and feet for 2 years. I am a very young at heart, fit, nutrition conscious fanatic, active, intelligent 60 year old woman of FAITH. I exercise, eat and drink natural, non-processed foods, like Kombucha, blue green algae, and many herbal extracts. Though I confess I do eat sugar, like organic coconut milk ice cream and gluten free desserts once in awhile.

I spent about 1/2 hour reading your info on eczema and felt conviction about my eating habits. I went to a naturopath in December, who put me on a strict diet, very hard to follow 100%, and recently I have been backsliding into eating some gluten, some sugar, and pork products, which were all OFF my eating list.

I really struggle with my skin condition. My hands and feet swell, are inflamed and get splits and crack lesions in the skin, which become very painful. I lose days from work due to not being able to walk without great pain. I take handfuls of vitamins, drink fish oil and blue green algae. My holistic Dr. is Dr. D’adamo, to founder of the blood type diets, and eating for your blood type. I did irrigation colonics for 4 months and German detox foot baths. Then stopped. I have been to at least 6 different doctors. So I have tried the traditional medical route (which I don’t really have alot of faith in them) and 2 different naturopaths. I have tried dozens upon dozens of different topical creams and oils. So you see I have tried just about everything.

I am very weary of the battle. Any words of wisdom you want to share about eczema I’d love to hear from you.

If I eliminate “sugar” and pork completely, do U think I’d see any improvement. What about Stevia?

  5. Your article about how you can tell if someone’s Scottish is absolute rubbish, drivel and I can’t believe someone who calls themselves any kind of writer would put this offensive crap on a website. I am a Scot (in Scotland) who meets none of your pathetic criteria. Also most of your article is innacurate when it comes to your suppositions. You should remove it from public display because it offends a huge number of people in Scotland.
